Some shuffling around on the pro teams this week and a preview of what’s to come this spring. Not a ton of new gear this week, but we’ve got some news.
Quick Hits
If you’re in LA, stay safe and check that Air Quality Index. It may not be safe to run outdoors!
Ex-Pro cyclist Tom Dumoulin ran a 68:45 half . Keep in mind he’s not old (34) and no scrub cyclist. 68 is far from his pro cycling time, but he’s retired. To take a shot at Kyle Merber, this is much faster than Merber’s Marathon debut.
Nike coach Pete Julian is out, but still coaching in Boulder. Dani Jones leaves Team Boss for Very Nice Track Club (Ron Warhurst)
Former Saucony pro Ben True is now interim head coach at Dartmoth after pushing it off. They’re lucky!
Paris Fashion Week is in 2 weeks! Expect some new releases.
Lee Glandorf wrote about pregnant athletic wear. Give it a read!
Here’s whats going on this week
Tracksmith dropped their marathon collection. This was not exciting for me and maybe my least favorite, but might be the most broadly appealing. Speaking frankly this singlet is feels like departure from their brand and doesn't feel right. Curious to hear about the design decision there.
Edit: The painterly swipe across the jersey is a seemingly reference to Bill Rodgers and the iconic paint gloves he raced in. The gloves in the TS marketing photos are not (yet?) available.
Voodoo Running just opened in Manchester, UK. It’s one of those third wave running stores and is on the list. If you’re a local, lucky you! They also have coffee daily.
Café Vestiaire is open in Paris. Seems like a weekly thing where you can grab some coffee and find a shake out. If you’re Paris local stop by for a jog with Collision Running! Love this third space effort by a running store x Saucony EU.
Sub-elite’s rejoice. Puma Running launched PUMA PROJECT3, which is a program similar to Tracksmith’s sponsorship or Nike’s Project Moonshot. 50 men and 50 women will get elite support, some unreleased (apparel) gear, and potentially cash bonuses. If you’re racing Boston or London, and run under 3:10, you can apply. Deadline is January 27.
This is their way of catching to other brands up on the sub-elite front. They’ve made a recent massive investment at the elite distance level and had the most women at the Olympic marathon in 2024.
Satisfy Running hasn’t released this yet but several stockists have. New colors for Spring ‘25. Reddit always hates this but hopefully people understand you don’t need to buy it. They’re doing interesting things that other brands aren’t doing yet. New tees, Softcell, Cloudmerino, and waffles. I particularly love this rusty brown PeaceShell River Shirt.

Running cafe and third place “Knee’s Up” from London has their own Pitti Uomo popup featuring a number of brands: Unna, Kuta Distance Lab, Alex Zono (hats, I keep telling u!), Tiempos, NNormal. Pitti is a big menswear spot to be seen, so wild to see a cafe / shop there as opposed to a brand. I Go Out Hall, 14-17 Jan.
Solo shop, Participation Running made this sweet singlet for folks running Tokyo. I love how many one-offs they make, the beauty of made to order stuff designed for and by the printer. Participation singlets are phenomenal quality - if I needed custom club singlets I’d be ordering through them (I ordered a singlet a while back). Order by Jan 18th to receive yours by Jan 31st.
The Nike Alphafly Ekiden releases officially via Nike at the end of the month (Jan 31). Heartbreak Running got it early, so get em while you can from a local shop. I’m way more excited about the Nike Vaporfly 4 coming April 3, 2025.
They also just launched the After Dark Tour in select major cities. This a series of races across the world designed for women. Register here by Jan 31 to get a piece of it. They’ve partnered with phenom BYU running coach Diljeet Taylor to help along the way.
Kuta Distance Lab just put together an electric video with Daniel Wardh. Don’t even care why. It’s electric.
Ultra Crue, makers of the silly Marlboro marathon design, put out some new graphic tees. It’s functionally running merch, but fun design so figured I’d mention. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em (do not smoke please).
That’s all folks! Stay tuned.
